Tomorrow, March 2, 2011 will mark 40 years since the formation of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) and members are in high gear for events planned for the celebration.

Last evening, past President of the party, Carvin Malone said the party has an entire calendar of events planned for the celebration which will run throughout this month.

Premier and leader of the VIP, Hon. Ralph T. O'Neal commented that the party has brought back hope to the BVI.

"I am all for celebrating the 40th anniversary...I am not a founding member, but even as a civil servant I supported the VIP...I think we should do something about it because it is the party that has done quite a bit for the Territory and brought hope alive," said the Premier.

Malone gave special thanks to the nine members who signed the charter back in 1971, including the late H. Lavity Stoutt, Terrence B. Lettsome, Randolph Malone, Donald Pickering, Joseph Skelton and Naomi Turnbull.

Deputy Premier Hon. Dancia Penn also joined in the congratulations.

The VIP was originally formed by H. Lavity Stoutt when he left the United Party then led by Willard Wheatley. Since its inception, the party has only been led by two men - H. Lavity Stoutt and Hon. Ralph T. O'Neal. Mr. Stoutt and Hon. O'Neal are also the only two politicians in the history of the Territory to have held non-consecutive terms of office as either Chief Minister or Premier.

carvin still acting like he still de president of de VIP ! he only say he step down becos he gettin millions from so much big contrac with de VIP goverment ! jus another bailout for carvin an de malone family !

I give praise to Mr. O'Neal, but in hind sight, I feel that it is time for him to step a side and let those whom we say are the future take over! I know I am going to get heat for this! but hey, I am entitled to my opinions, am I not? That is what Democracy is all about!

Hamilton Lavity Stoutt was a founding member of the VIP.On March 7th, his birthday, which is a holiday in BVI, we goes by hardly noticed . He would have been eighty-two years old. They have no shame. The level at which they run this country is so low, they should be ashamed of themselves. Then again greed, nepotism and badmindedness are part of the shameless mindset.

At least their corruption is in the open. The big plans NDP young/middleaged businessmen have for bringing in businesses and for putting their men at the head of the utilities are secret and will remain so, unless the GOVERNOR who isn't listening demands that the law is adhered to and not only... more

I find it sad to read the way folks continue to disrespect this man...I know, some may not like his ways/or party he stands with but he is still and elder in the BVI and is makes me very sad to read such all the harsh words use towards him...some of you may NOT live to be or see half that he was... more

After reading the negative comments about him/VIP, I began to think where is the gratitude from people, regardless of the political party he's representing. You reap what you sow. Should we ignore this gentleman's past behaviors just because he is getting older? I am not his judge, but I know his actions have adversely affected me and my fellow BVIslanders.

I agree we have never seen this amount of corruption and lies going on by this governement ! 

Ralphy has a great deal to answere for an he know this is only good for he cronys to get rich !

Hmm, did I read this correctly? Did Ralphie say, "I am not a founding member, but even as a civil servant I supported the VIP?..." Oh, I see, so back in the day a Civil Servant had a voice and could support a political party of his or her choosing...

And thats all Ralph want. is to run a competiton with H. L Stoutt. He want to die in office just like Mr. Stoutt. He need to go home and rest!
